US lawmakers intensify push for SAVE America Act amid election integrity debate

Following a U.S. Supreme Court decision that permitted Mississippi to count certain absentee ballots received after Election Day, the Election Transparency Initiative urged President Donald Trump to withhold his signature on a bipartisan housing bill until Congress passes the SAVE America Act. Ken Cuccinelli, the initiative’s national chairman, said, “A promise on election integrity is only as good as the next signature,” and called on the President to “insist Congress finish the job” on election reforms.

Senator Rick Scott echoed the call on a Fox News Sunday interview, stating that “the public is demanding this…we’ve got to figure this out.” The SAVE America Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote and an ID to cast a ballot in federal elections. Both officials framed the legislation as a response to voter concerns and a means to strengthen election security.

The debate has taken place alongside broader foreign‑policy remarks, but the central focus remains on whether the President will support the House‑passed version of the SAVE America Act or allow the housing bill to become law without the election‑integrity provisions.
