U.S. lawmakers introduce bill to expose Epstein’s banking ties

U.S. lawmakers have introduced the Epstein Wall Street Records Act, a bipartisan legislative effort aimed at uncovering the extent of Jeffrey Epstein’s connections to major financial institutions. The bill, sponsored by Senator Elizabeth Warren, Representative Robert Garcia, and Republican Representative Thomas Massie, would require federal regulators—including the FDIC, the Federal Reserve, the SEC, and the Comptroller of the Currency—to disclose unreleased transaction records and files related to Epstein’s spending.

The legislation seeks to determine if banking executives were aware of Epstein’s criminal activities and if financial services facilitated his operations. The scope of the bill extends to any entity controlled by Epstein, as well as the financial holdings and transactions of Ghislaine Maxwell and other associates.

This move follows previous scrutiny of major banks. JPMorgan Chase, for instance, previously settled a class-action lawsuit for $290 million and a separate lawsuit with the U.S. Virgin Islands for $75 million regarding its 15-year relationship with Epstein. The proposed act would mandate investigations into potential regulatory violations and could lead to referrals to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution.
