U.S. lawmakers reintroduce sanctions against Chinese fentanyl networks

U.S. lawmakers have reintroduced the CCP Fentanyl Sanctions Act, a bipartisan measure aimed at targeting Chinese entities involved in the production and distribution of fentanyl and its precursors. The legislation, introduced by Representative Ro Khanna and Representative John Moolenaar, seeks to expand sanctions to include Chinese chemical manufacturers, online vendors, ports, and financial networks accused of facilitating the flow of synthetic narcotics into the United States.

The bill proposes expanding existing authorities to cover Chinese vessels and ports that knowingly or recklessly assist in transporting illicit drugs. It also targets online marketplaces and allows the president to restrict correspondent and payable-through accounts for foreign financial institutions found to be facilitating transactions for synthetic narcotics traffickers.
