US legal sector adds record jobs, boosting demand for California labor attorneys

The U.S. legal industry added 5,100 jobs in June 2026, taking total legal employment to a record 1,243,500 positions and marking a third straight month of all‑time highs. Growth was driven by strong client demand for litigation, corporate transactions, regulatory guidance, labor and employment work, and new AI‑related legal services, despite a slowdown in broader hiring.

At the same time, California‑licensed labor and employment lawyers are experiencing heightened demand nationwide. Recent expansions of the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) and other workplace‑regulation reforms have increased exposure for employers, prompting firms to seek counsel with specialized expertise. The rise of AI in workplaces is also creating new compliance and litigation work, further reinforcing the need for seasoned California labor attorneys.
