US lifts export ban on Anthropic's Claude AI model
The U.S. Department of Commerce removed export restrictions on Anthropic's advanced artificial‑intelligence model Claude Feable‑5, allowing the service to resume on July 1. Anthropic said it received notice that the ban was lifted and thanked users for their patience.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced the decision after a two‑week review with Anthropic, noting that safety safeguards were in place. The model, a safer variant of Anthropic’s earlier Mitos system, had been blocked over concerns it could be misused for hacking or weapon design. Earlier this month, Amazon reported that the model could be accessed in ways that bypassed those safeguards. The change follows similar limited releases by other AI firms, such as OpenAI’s staged rollout of its GPT‑5.6 model to a small partner group.
