US Lifts Export Ban on Anthropic's Claude Mythos AI Model, Sparking Cybersecurity Industry Reaction

The U.S. Commerce Department lifted export restrictions on Anthropic’s advanced AI model Claude Mythos, which had been detained over concerns it could rapidly identify software vulnerabilities. The reversal, announced this week, follows Anthropic’s earlier suspension of access to the model.

CrowdStrike President Michael Sentonas said the cybersecurity sector is rushing to understand the implications, advising executives on how the model might be used to discover and exploit flaws. CrowdStrike is participating in Anthropic’s Project Glasswing and OpenAI’s Trusted Access program to test the technology. Sentonas warned that as access expands, attackers could accelerate exploit development, potentially exposing organizations to a higher volume of zero‑day threats.
