US Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Dick Durbin are conducting a multi-country tour of the Western Balkans, visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, and Kosovo. The delegation is focusing on regional security, democratic institutions, economic development, and energy diversification, specifically regarding NATO and EU integration.

During the visit, Senator Shaheen raised concerns regarding the political involvement of former Trump aides James Blair and Chris LaCivita, who reportedly advised authorities in Republika Srpska. Shaheen stated that such involvement “should cause a political firestorm” and is “not in America’s interest,” noting it occurs at the expense of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s unity. While Donald Trump indicated he was unaware of their specific clients, Shaheen called for the immediate reinstatement of US sanctions against Milorad Dodik.

Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković announced that he will provide US partners with a Constitutional Court verdict regarding the illegal financing of foreign policy activities by Republika Srpska. He emphasized the need for US engagement to counter Russian influence and secessionist activities in the region.
