US M2 money supply grows 5.41% in July, fastest rate since 2022

U.S. M2 money supply grew by 5.41% year-over-year in July, reaching approximately $23.22 trillion. This represents the fastest growth rate since mid-2022, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.

The increase in broad money supply highlights a growing gap between rising liquidity and the Federal Reserve’s 2% inflation target. While the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for July showed a 3.4% annual increase, core inflation remains a concern for policymakers. The expansion of M2 suggests a shift toward a looser financial environment, which could potentially complicate efforts to stabilize prices.

For financial markets, increased liquidity often creates a favorable environment for risk assets. Analysts note that accelerated M2 growth may bolster the narrative of Bitcoin and gold as hedges against currency devaluation if dollar purchasing power declines.
