US Marine pilot survives F/A-18 Hornet crash in Washington

The Yakima County Sheriff's Office has released body camera footage showing a U.S. Marine pilot walking toward first responders after ejecting from an F/A-18 Hornet crash in Washington State. The incident occurred on June 13 near Rimrock Lake, south of Seattle, during a routine training flight.

Footage shows the pilot, identified by CBS News as Maj. Jackson Simon, approaching responders with blood on his face while using a cell phone to contact emergency services. The pilot reported that the aircraft experienced issues during low-altitude maneuvers over the lake.

While the jet exploded upon impact with a hillside, the pilot successfully ejected. He sustained minor injuries to his face and hands after passing through trees during his descent. He was subsequently treated by paramedics and transported to a hospital. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
