Gold and silver prices surge following weak US employment data

Gold and silver experienced significant weekly gains, driven by weakening US economic data that fueled expectations for potential Federal Reserve interest rate cuts. Gold prices rose by 7.4%, settling near $4,341 per ounce, while silver saw a 10.2% increase.

The rally followed US employment reports showing a decline of 23,000 non-farm payrolls in July, significantly below the expected increase of 85,000. Additionally, ADP private sector employment rose by only 44,000. These indicators led to a drop in the US Dollar Index to 99.5 and a decline in the 10-year bond yield to 4.65%.

In other commodity markets, Eurozone manufacturing PMI rose to 51.9, the fastest increase in 4.5 years. Meanwhile, copper prices were supported by supply concerns following an export ban in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
