U.S. medical associations issue independent vaccine guidelines

Major United States medical associations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, have released independent vaccination recommendations for the fall 2026 season. These guidelines for seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines were issued following a loss of credibility in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the leadership of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Medical professionals state that patients require clear, reliable recommendations based on the best available scientific data. This move follows shifts in federal policy under the Trump administration, including an executive order that reduced the number of recommended vaccines for children. While Kennedy initiated reforms to vaccination policies—such as removing the universal recommendation for the hepatitis B vaccine for newborns—some of these measures were suspended by a federal judge in March for allegedly ignoring scientific methods.

The World Health Organization has also emphasized the importance of childhood vaccination, advocating for schedules based on scientific evidence.
