US midterm elections begin early voting period

Early in-person voting has commenced for the U.S. midterm elections, marking the beginning of a six-week period that will determine which party controls the House and Senate. The elections come amid significant national issues, including a cost-of-living crisis and ongoing international conflict in Iran.

Election administrators have expressed confidence in the accuracy and security of the voting process. However, the political landscape remains tense, as President Donald Trump has engaged in efforts to challenge voting methods, pursue noncitizen voters through federal initiatives, and pressure election officials regarding sensitive voter data.

Early voting began in Virginia, with other states such as Minnesota and South Dakota allowing in-person absentee ballots. More extensive early voting options are expected to roll out in various states in the coming weeks.
