US midterm elections: Democrats lead in polls and early voting

As the United States approaches midterm elections, several key indicators suggest a challenging landscape for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. Polling data from NBC News indicates that Democrats hold a 52% to 43% preference for controlling Congress, driven largely by a significant advantage among independent voters.

Economic concerns appear to be a major factor in voter sentiment. An Associated Press-NORC poll shows that 65% of US adults blame Trump's policies for the high cost of living, with only 17% approving of his management of inflation. While Trump maintains that the country is seeing historic economic strength, public dissatisfaction with prices remains high.

Early voting patterns also suggest a Democratic advantage. In states such as Iowa, Pennsylvania, Maine, and North Carolina, the proportion of early and mail-in ballot requests from registered Democrats has increased compared to the 2024 election cycle. Over 700,000 Americans across 30 states have already participated in early voting.

Additionally, Democratic leaders have signaled that a victory in the midterms could lead to intensive investigations into the Trump family's business dealings, including interests in cryptocurrency and venture capital, starting as early as February.
