US midterm elections face tight races and economic pressures

As the November 3 midterm elections approach in the United States, the political landscape is being shaped by intense competition for Congressional seats and significant macroeconomic pressures.

In the Senate, the race remains highly competitive. While polling suggests Republicans may hold an advantage, the final balance of power depends on eight undecided states. In the House of Representatives, where all 435 seats are up for reelection, Democrats are looking to close the gap in 39 highly contested seats to reach the 218-seat threshold required for a majority.

Simultaneously, economic indicators are placing strain on households. Fuel costs have seen dramatic increases; according to AAA data, gasoline prices rose approximately 35.9% year-over-year to an average of $4.32 per gallon. Diesel prices have surged by 68.7%, reaching a record average of $6.23 per gallon, with prices in California exceeding $8. These rising energy costs, alongside mortgage rates approaching 7% and increasing bond yields, are central themes in the upcoming election cycle.
