US Midterm Elections: High Early Voting Turnout and Corruption Concerns
Early voting for the US midterm elections has seen a significant increase compared to 2022 in several key states that could determine control of the Senate. According to an Associated Press analysis, Texas has seen a 74% increase in early voting, while participation in Kansas has more than doubled. Other states, including Maine, North Carolina, and Ohio, have reported increases of over 30% in early in-person and mail-in voting.
Nationally, over 13 million citizens have already cast ballots via mail or early in-person voting, up from 9 million during the same period in 2022. Factors influencing voter interest include dissatisfaction with tariffs, the high cost of living, and rising fuel prices linked to the war in Iran.
Simultaneously, corruption has emerged as a major concern for voters. A CNN poll indicates that 19% of voters view corruption as a serious issue, trailing only the economy and cost of living. Recent allegations involving the Trump administration have surfaced, including claims regarding former Ambassador Kimberley Guilfoyle, controversial aircraft purchases by the Department of Homeland Security, and financial ties involving Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian oligarch.
