Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has announced two major initiatives aimed at securing American technological and military dominance: the creation of the Autonomous Warfare Command and the launch of Project Meridian.

The Autonomous Warfare Command will be a new military organization at the same level as STRATCOM or Cyber Command, led by a four-star general. Its mission is to expand the integration of autonomous and robotic systems across all branches of the U.S. military.

Project Meridian is a study tasked with examining the future of warfare, with a mandate to explore everything from subterranean environments to the cislunar frontier. The project is scheduled to present its findings within 120 days. Elon Musk, Palmer Luckey of Anduril Industries, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will serve as co-directors of the initiative.
