U.S. military bases suffer extensive damage from Iranian strikes
New photographs obtained by CBS News from anonymous active-duty service members reveal extensive destruction at U.S. military installations across the Middle East following Iranian missile and drone attacks. The images provide a ground-level view of damage that was previously not widely communicated to the American public, showing charred buildings, destroyed vehicles, and shredded equipment.
A significant highlight in the visual evidence is the destruction of a Boeing E-3 Sentry airborne early warning aircraft at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, where the tail section was severed from the fuselage. Other images document severe damage at Camp Buehring and Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, including destroyed trailers and damaged barracks.
These visual reports coincide with a mandatory Pentagon Inspector General report submitted to Congress. The report confirms that Iranian strikes have damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and structures at U.S. bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, and Jordan. The report estimates total equipment losses from the conflict with Iran at up to $3.7 billion, which includes the loss or damage of nearly 60 aircraft.
