US military bases in Middle East sustain severe damage from Iranian attacks
U.S. military bases in the Middle East have sustained severe damage following attacks by Iran, according to sources cited by The Intercept. The destruction is reportedly so significant that Washington may never be able to restore its military presence in the region to previous levels.
Reports indicate that the damage has fundamentally disrupted U.S. Armed Forces operations. Dozens of military aircraft have been damaged or destroyed, including four F-15 fighter jets, 12 KC-135 aerial refueling tankers, and 30 MQ-9 Reaper strike drones.
While a memorandum of understanding was signed in June to cease hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon, the U.S. resumed attacks against Iran on July 8. The U.S. administration accused Iran of violating terms regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway through which approximately 25% of global oil trade and 20% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade passes. Following these escalations, the U.S. has signaled a shift from large-scale military force toward an economic strangulation strategy through sanctions.
