U.S. military strike kills one, leaves two survivors on alleged drug boat in Eastern Pacific
On 16 June 2026 the U.S. Southern Command announced that a kinetic strike by Joint Task Force Southern Spear hit a vessel in the Eastern Pacific that it said was operating on known narcotics‑trafficking routes and was run by Designated Terrorist Organizations. The attack killed one male and two other men survived. The U.S. Coast Guard was immediately notified to launch a search‑and‑rescue effort.
The strike is part of a campaign launched by the Trump administration in September 2025 against what it labels “narcoterrorists.” The cumulative death toll from U.S. boat strikes has risen to at least 208 people, according to military statements, with human‑rights groups calling the operations extrajudicial killings and questioning their legality. No U.S. service members were injured in the operation.
