U.S. military branches award contracts for counter-drone defense systems

Defense contractors V2X, Inc. and L3Harris Technologies have secured contracts to provide counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) technologies to branches of the United States military.

V2X, Inc. has been awarded a $19 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract by the U.S. Marine Corps. The company will deliver Tempest counter-UAS vehicles, which are designed for high mobility to protect maneuver forces. The contract includes maintenance support, software management, training, and engineering services to help detect and defeat unmanned aerial threats in contested environments.

L3Harris Technologies has been selected by the U.S. Navy to deliver VAMPIRE counter-unmanned systems. The VAMPIRE system provides reconnaissance and precision strikes against drones and remotely piloted platforms. L3Harris is also delivering VAMPIRE systems to the U.S. Army and is working to ruggedize the technology for maritime environments.
