US military casualties exceed 750 wounded in Iran war

The Pentagon's war casualty database reports that more than 750 US service members have been wounded since the start of the war against Iran on February 28. When combining totals from 'Overseas Operations' and 'Operation Epic Fury', the data shows 18 service members have died and 757 have been wounded.

The Department of Defense recently updated its database to include more than 50 additional wounded soldiers. This update follows scrutiny from lawmakers and media regarding previous discrepancies where casualty numbers appeared to decrease while Iranian attacks continued; the Pentagon attributed those instances to 'temporary data disruptions'.

While the Pentagon has not provided specific details regarding the 'Overseas Operations' category created on July 7, that date coincides with a War Powers Act notification from the Trump administration regarding a new conflict with Iran. Meanwhile, diplomatic negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain at an impasse, and the Strait of Hormuz continues to be a major point of tension.
