Pembrokeshire DARC radar plan prompts protest and Welsh government call‑in

Campaigners opposing the proposed US DARC radar array in west Wales rallied outside Pembrokeshire County Hall in Haverfordwest after Plaid Cymru's Welsh Government decided to “call in” the planning decision, shifting authority from the county council to the devolved administration. The protest, organised by PARC Against DARC, featured mock‑up masks of South Pembrokeshire Labour MP Henry Tufnell, accusing him of being out of touch and of undermining local jobs and culture.

Tufnell, who represents Mid and South Pembrokeshire, publicly backed the US radar project and criticised the Welsh Government’s intervention, arguing that decisions affecting local employment should be made locally. The campaign group argues the scheme would lead to a net loss of hundreds of jobs, the removal of the 14th Signal Regiment from nearby Brawdy, and poses broader security and environmental concerns.

The Welsh Government’s call‑in moves the decision to a national level, reflecting the project’s claimed global military significance, while local opponents continue to challenge its impacts on the community and Wales’ relationship with UK and US defence policy.
