US military death, DHS spending dispute, and Canada trade tensions
The U.S. Army has identified Captain Bianca C. Wilkerson as the 19th American service member to die in connection with Middle East operations. Wilkerson, 37, died following a non-combat medical emergency during an overseas deployment flight. The Army has posthumously promoted her to the rank of major while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of her death.
In Washington, Senate Democrats have accused the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of illegally redirecting $20 million in taxpayer funds. Lawmakers claim money originally designated for Customs and Border Protection was instead used for government-funded promotional advertisements favoring President Trump. Committee leaders have issued a formal demand for answers regarding the expenditure.
Additionally, trade tensions between the United States and Canada have escalated following a new U.S. ban on nearly $1 billion worth of Canadian goods.
