US military faces strategic shifts and $1.5 trillion budget request amid Iranian missile threats

The effectiveness of Iranian ballistic missiles against United States military bases has prompted shifts in regional military presence. Professor John Mearsheimer noted that these missiles have proven highly effective, causing serious damage or destruction to several bases, which has contributed to the U.S. actively withdrawing forces from the Persian Gulf toward Jordan, Israel, and Europe.

Concurrently, the intensive use of munitions in conflicts involving Iran has highlighted challenges for the U.S. in sustaining prolonged warfare while maintaining readiness against adversaries like China and Russia. To address these shortages and replenish stocks, the Pentagon has requested a record $1.5 trillion budget for 2027 from Congress. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that preparing for war is the best way to create peace. The proposed budget focuses on artificial intelligence, space operations, drones, and expanding the defense industrial base to support high-intensity conventional warfare.
