General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has stated that the U.S. military has no plans to deploy federal personnel or National Guard members to polling places during the 2026 midterm elections. In a letter addressed to Senator Elissa Slotkin, Caine clarified that the Joint Force does not intend to use military personnel to seize ballots, voting machines, or other election-related materials.

Caine emphasized that election administration and security remain the fundamental responsibility of state and local officials. He further noted that he has not received, nor does he anticipate receiving, any unlawful orders regarding the military's role in the upcoming elections.

The assurance comes amid concerns raised by Democratic lawmakers regarding potential interference by the Trump administration. Senator Slotkin had requested confirmation from both Caine and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to ensure the military would not be used to influence the voting process.
