U.S. military in Okinawa suspends operations following murder arrest

The U.S. military in Okinawa has announced a 48-hour suspension of unit operations starting at noon on October 7 to conduct disciplinary training. This decision follows the arrest of a U.S. Marine on suspicion of robbery and murder of a woman at a hotel in Naha. During this period, personnel are prohibited from drinking alcohol and engaging in free-time activities outside of bases. The Third Marine Expeditionary Force stated they will cooperate fully with Japanese investigations and emphasized the responsibility of serving in Okinawa.

Following the training period, a 30-day review period will implement a curfew from midnight to 5:00 AM, requiring personnel to be at designated residences. Security at base entrances will also be increased. The military plans to present revised rules regarding off-base activities to the Okinawa Regional Coordination Committee.
