US Military Launches New Wave of Attacks on Iran
The U.S. Central Command said American forces carried out a fresh wave of strikes against Iran, aiming to curb Tehran’s ability to disrupt commercial traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The statement followed an earlier sortie that hit more than 80 Iranian targets and was presented as a response to Iranian actions against merchant vessels.
President Donald Trump, who had hinted at further action, declared that the attacks had “hit Iran hard” and warned that additional strikes could occur later the same night. Iran’s state television reported eight Iranian navy and air‑force personnel killed in the latest attacks, while U.S. officials said no American casualties were recorded.
Tehran answered with retaliatory strikes on U.S. bases in the region, and the president announced that a three‑week cease‑fire with Iran was over. In the wake of the escalation, Pakistan urged all sides to observe the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, and U.N. Secretary‑General António Guterres called for restraint and a return to negotiations to prevent further destabilisation.
