U.S. military personnel to visit Pattaya for five-day rest period
Approximately 5,000 U.S. military personnel from the USS Abraham Lincoln strike group are scheduled to arrive in Thailand for a five-day rest and recuperation period. The group is expected to dock at Laem Chabang from September 2 to September 6.
Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet estimates the visit could generate between 5 million and 15 million baht in local revenue. This projection assumes each sailor and Marine spends between 1,000 and 3,000 baht during their stay. Local businesses, particularly in the Walking Street area, are anticipating a boost to the tourism, restaurant, and transport sectors following a period of lower activity.
The crew is arriving after a record-breaking deployment at sea lasting over 250 days. In response to the influx, Pattaya police have increased patrols and investigations to ensure security in tourist and entertainment districts.
