US military stockpiles depleted amid ongoing Iran conflict

The conflict between the United States and Iran has entered its fifth month, marked by significant military depletion and diplomatic instability. Reports indicate that the U.S. Army has exhausted virtually all of its ATACMS and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). Additionally, air defense capabilities have been heavily impacted, with nearly 80% of THAAD missiles and approximately 50% of Patriot interceptors expended during the campaign.

Diplomatically, negotiations regarding the Strait of Hormuz are ongoing. A tentative agreement between Iran and Oman aims to reopen the waterway by routing inbound traffic through Iranian waters and outbound traffic through Omani waters. However, Iran has demanded the lifting of economic sanctions, the unfreezing of assets, and an end to the shipping blockade in exchange.

Persistent disputes remain regarding the control of the international waterway and Iran's nuclear program. The conflict has previously involved an Iranian attack on a U.S. base in Jordan and subsequent U.S. retaliatory bombings of Iran. The depletion of missile stockpiles may force the U.S. military to rely more heavily on piloted bombing missions if further escalations are approved.
