US Mint medals fuel gold speculation as Indian gold prices surge

The United States Mint recently listed limited‑edition Gold and Silver Liberty Bell medals with a 1‑ounce gold price of $19,600 and a 1‑ounce silver price of $1,500, far above the spot market rates of roughly $4,100 per ounce for gold and $62 for silver. The unusually high premiums sparked discussion about a possible revaluation of precious metals.

In India, physical gold prices rose sharply on 25 June 2026, with 24‑karat gold reaching 13,709 ₹ per gram, a 31.24 % increase year‑on‑year but a 12.39 % drop over the past 30 days. Silver spot prices hovered around 75,000 ₹ per kilogram, down 5.88 % for the week. At the same time, gold and silver exchange‑traded funds (ETFs) fell, with gold ETFs losing up to 2.40 % and silver ETFs dropping up to 4.05 %. Analysts linked the ETF outflows to institutional selling, a weakening rupee, and a restrictive monetary stance by the Reserve Bank of India, while retail investors continued to buy physical metals.
