US missile strikes hit Iranian bases in Hormozgan and Sistan‑Baluchestan

On 15 July 2024 (24 Tir 1405), the United States launched a second wave of missile attacks against Iranian military sites in the south of Iran. Explosions were reported in Hormozgan province – on Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas and Sirik – where limited damage was recorded at a fish‑powder factory and no civilian casualties were confirmed. In Sistan‑Baluchestan, the 388th mechanised infantry base at Bampar (Iranshahr) was hit by 13 missiles, killing seven Basij/conscription personnel and wounding dozens; many of the injured were taken to hospitals, prompting a public call for blood donations. Separate missile impacts were reported near Ahvaz’s children’s cancer hospital, leading to the temporary evacuation of the facility. Iranian officials condemned the attacks as a breach of the 2016 Islamabad‑Washington agreement, vowed a decisive response, and warned that further US violations would halt Iran’s reciprocal commitments. CENTCOM announced the strikes targeted Iranian capabilities that threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and also disabled an empty oil tanker en route to Iran. Former US President Donald Trump later claimed Iran had released an American prisoner.
