US Mission in Nigeria supports Team Nigeria for 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships

The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a message of support for Nigerian U-20 athletes ahead of the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships. The event, branded ‘Oregon 26’, is scheduled to take place from August 5–9, 2026, at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, USA.

The US Mission described the championship as a vital platform for Nigeria’s next generation of athletes to demonstrate talent, determination, and excellence on a global stage. The mission also noted that the participation of Team Nigeria highlights the broader bilateral connections between Nigeria and the United States in sectors such as sports, education, and technology.

The championships are expected to feature more than 1,700 athletes from nearly 200 countries competing in various track and field disciplines, including sprints, hurdles, distance races, jumps, throws, and combined events like the decathlon and heptathlon.
