The US Mission in Nigeria has issued a warning to visa applicants regarding the submission of forged or misleading documentation. As part of the #VisaWiseTravelSmart campaign, the mission emphasized that providing fraudulent information—such as fake bank statements, employment letters, or travel records—carries consequences far beyond the immediate rejection of an application.

Consular officers who detect fraudulent documents or information suggesting a potential security threat will immediately alert relevant US government agencies. The mission stated, “We are coordinating to protect national security and keep criminals and bad actors out.” Information uncovered during the application process may be shared with US law enforcement and security agencies to prevent potential threats from entering the United States. Applicants are advised that misleading claims can negatively impact their ability to secure US visas in the future.
