US Moderates Mobilize Against Democratic Socialists Within Party

Centrist Democrats, led by Jonathan Cowan of the Third Way think‑tank, announced a $15 million effort through 2028 to counter the growing influence of Democratic Socialists of America. The effort gained urgency after Abdulrahman Mohamed El‑Sayed, a public‑health official aligned with the socialist wing, narrowly won the Michigan primary, marking a high‑profile victory for the movement. At the same time, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has begun promoting major institutional reforms, calling for the abolition of the Electoral College and a restructuring of the Supreme Court. His proposals have sparked sharp criticism from conservatives and highlighted the deepening ideological split within the Democratic Party as the 2028 election cycle approaches.
