US Moringa Supplement Salmonella Outbreak Expands to 137 Cases

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its warning to show that salmonella linked to moringa leaf products now includes 137 confirmed infections across 36 states. The outbreak comprises two strands: 119 cases in 36 states tied to various green‑superfood supplements, and an additional 18 cases in 14 states linked to MOGO brand moringa capsules. Hospitalizations total 39, and no deaths have been reported.

Total Nutrition Inc. of New York has broadened its recall to cover more lots of moringa capsules, while MOGO Moringa LLC recalled two specific lots of its Pure Moringa Oleifera capsules. The FDA is also investigating separate, still‑unidentified foodborne outbreaks involving Listeria and Cyclospora.

Health officials warn that recalled products may still be present in homes, and the long shelf life of these supplements could extend the risk period.
