US-Morocco partnership advances green ammonia project in Laâyoune

The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and ORNX Green Hydrogen signed a grant agreement in Laâyoune, Morocco, to fund the pre‑front‑end‑engineering design (Pre‑FEED) study for a green ammonia production facility. The signing ceremony was held at the seat of the Wilaya of Laâyoune‑Sakia El Hamra and was attended by U.S. Ambassador Duke Buchan III, regional officials including Wali Abdessalam Bekrate, and council presidents Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid and Moulay Hamdi Ould Errachid. The grant will support technical and economic feasibility assessments for converting green hydrogen, produced from renewable energy, into ammonia, a key step in Morocco’s strategy to become a regional hub for clean‑energy exports. The project underscores expanding bilateral cooperation between the United States and Morocco in strategic clean‑energy sectors.
