US national debt surge sparks debate over gold and Bitcoin
Rising United States national debt, which has exceeded $39 trillion, is driving debate among financial experts regarding the most effective hedge against inflation and fiscal instability.
Peter Schiff argues that the growing debt makes it difficult for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates, even as rising debt necessitates inflation to help finance government obligations. Schiff advocates for gold as the primary protection against these economic pressures.
In contrast, Anthony Scaramucci of SkyBridge Capital suggests that Bitcoin may be a superior long-term option, despite its higher volatility compared to gold. Scaramucci highlighted concerns regarding the structure of U.S. borrowing, noting that the government is increasingly relying on short-term Treasury bills. He pointed out that as older debt matures, it must be replaced at higher interest rates, contributing to annual interest costs that have surpassed $1 trillion.
