Delhi NIA court grants bail in Myanmar training camp case

A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Delhi has granted default bail to six Ukrainian nationals and modified bail conditions for US national Matthew Aaron VanDyke in the Myanmar training camp case. The case involves allegations that the group provided drone warfare training to ethnic armed groups in Myanmar.

The court granted the Ukrainians default bail after the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) compounded offences under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, following a penalty of Rs 5.5 lakh each. The six individuals—Hurba Petro, Taras Slyviak, Ivan Sukmanovskyi, Marian Stefankiv, Maksym Honcharuk, and Viktor Kaminskyi—are restricted from leaving Delhi without court permission.

Regarding VanDyke, the court modified his bail conditions to allow release on a Rs 1 lakh cash bond, exempting him from a surety bond. The court has deferred a hearing on his application to travel to the United States to visit family. While the NIA has filed a chargesheet invoking the Immigration and Foreigners Act, its investigation into alleged offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) is still ongoing.
