US Navy announces $1.7 billion military housing agreement

The US Navy has entered into a $1.7 billion housing agreement with Hunt Military Communities to develop and modernize military housing in the Hampton Roads region. The five-year framework agreement aims to create or renovate a total of 8,098 beds for Sailors.

A significant portion of this investment, exceeding $450 million, is allocated to the ‘HomePort Hampton Roads 2’ project in downtown Newport News. This specific development will feature two 17-story residential towers providing approximately 750 two-bedroom units designed for unaccompanied Sailors. The project also includes a 1,050-space structured parking garage and ground-floor commercial spaces for Navy services and retail.

The initiative follows previous investigations into the living and working conditions of Sailors stationed in the region. By utilizing privatized housing models, the Navy intends to improve quality of life and operational readiness while supporting the economic revitalization of the Newport News downtown corridor.
