U.S. Navy awards contracts for AI detection and cybersecurity systems

The U.S. Navy has awarded two significant contracts aimed at enhancing the technological capabilities and security of its warships.

Applied Intuition received a $25 million contract to deploy the Intelligent Perception System (IPS) across five Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. This AI-driven vision and sensor-fusion system integrates infrared sensors, navigation feeds, and cameras to automatically identify and track maritime vessels in real time. By providing visual overlays and predicting trajectory paths, the system is designed to alert watch officers to potential collision risks, reducing human error caused by fatigue or blind spots.

Separately, the Navy awarded a $23.13 million contract to Integer Technologies to develop cybersecurity defenses for warship electrical power systems through the Threat Resilient Integrated Defense for Enhanced Naval Technologies (TRIDENT) program. Working with Florida State University, the project will develop a zero-trust security framework specifically for shipboard power networks. This initiative aims to protect mission-critical electrical distribution—which supports everything from machinery to advanced weapons—against cyberattacks that could interfere with physical equipment and control functions.
