US Navy rules out return to damaged Bahrain base anytime soon
The U.S. Navy has announced that it does not expect to return to Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain in the near future. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Daryl Caudle confirmed during a recent town hall that the service will not be returning to the primary Middle East logistics hub ‘anytime soon’ following extensive damage sustained during Iranian missile and drone attacks.
The strikes, which occurred on February 28 during the opening phase of Operation Epic Fury, targeted the installation in Manama. The base has long served as a critical headquarters and supply center for U.S. naval operations across the Middle East, providing essential pier-side resupply for warships.
While the Pentagon has maintained a policy of not commenting on specific damage assessments or future operations, the loss of the facility is expected to have significant tactical and strategic repercussions. The disruption has forced Navy leadership to rethink logistics for ships operating in the Persian Gulf. Adm. Caudle noted he is working with Vice Adm. Curt A. Renshaw to develop plans to reunite displaced service members with their personal belongings, though access to the base may remain strictly limited.
