U.S. Navy C-2A Greyhound completes final carrier landing

On 25 June 2026, a C-2A Greyhound from Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 40 (VRC‑40) performed its last carrier‑on‑board‑delivery (COD) landing aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN‑68). The aircraft, BuNo 162159, marked the end of a service record that began in 1966, during which the Greyhound transported personnel, mail, spare parts and medical patients between shore bases and carrier groups.

The retirement of the Greyhound ends six decades of fixed‑wing COD operations launched by catapult and recovered by arresting wire. Its logistical role is being transferred to the tilt‑rotor CMV‑22B Osprey, which can take off and land vertically. The Navy plans to store most retired Greyhounds at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group at Davis‑Monthan Air Force Base, with some aircraft earmarked for museums or training use.
