US Navy considers renaming aircraft carrier after Donald Trump

The US Navy is reportedly considering renaming a future aircraft carrier to honor President Donald Trump. The vessel in question is a Gerald R. Ford-class carrier, currently designated as CVN-81.

If the change proceeds, it would be unprecedented, as no aircraft carrier has ever been named after a sitting president. The ship was originally named the USS Doris Miller in January 2020, honoring the African American sailor celebrated for his heroic actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Renaming the vessel would mark the first time a carrier's name has been changed after its original designation was approved.
