US Navy facing military and morale crises, claims former CIA analyst

During an Al Mayadeen panel titled ‘The Great Standoff: Iran and the World’, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson and University of Tehran professor Mohammad Marandi discussed the escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

Johnson claimed that the United States is facing increasing military, logistical, and economic pressures. He specifically highlighted deteriorating conditions within the US Navy, alleging that shortages of food and personal hygiene items, along with sewage system malfunctions, are impacting personnel. Johnson stated that the number of sailors attempting suicide on the aircraft carrier USS Lincoln likely approached 30, suggesting that prolonged conflict is severely damaging military morale.

Marandi argued that Iran possesses a greater capacity to endure the consequences of war, as the nation views its actions as defense against external aggression. Johnson concluded that ‘time is on the side of Iran, not the United States’, noting that Washington faces difficulties in maintaining its military presence and replenishing advanced weaponry.
