US Navy Secretary advises personnel to hide military ties on social media

Acting US Navy Secretary Hung Cao has issued a directive to Sailors and Marines to “harden” their social media profiles and obscure their military affiliations. The move is a response to warnings regarding a “coordinated, multi-domain” campaign by hostile actors.

These adversarial operations are reported to include direct attacks, harassment, and the unauthorized publication of personal information. To mitigate these risks, personnel are advised to utilize private profiles, remove identifying information, and report suspicious activities, such as unusual drone sightings, to their commands.
