US NSF launches $100 million program for state and regional AI infrastructure hubs

The National Science Foundation announced a $100 million initiative to create up to ten state and regional artificial‑intelligence infrastructure hubs. The program will fund research, education and workforce development, and require each hub to partner with local industry to align investments with job‑market needs. Hubs will provide cutting‑edge compute resources and data access for scientists, students and educators.

Separately, Red Hat, IBM Research and the Mass Open Cloud selected eight U.S. university projects for the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR) Deep Partnership program. The projects, running from December 2025 to June 2026, will develop open‑source AI infrastructure, improve AI for software development, and enhance efficiency and reliability of AI systems using Red Hat’s enterprise AI stack.
