US Nubaru cleared to acquire Italy's Tekne di Ortona after golden‑power review

American defence‑technology firm Nubaru received approval to acquire a 70% stake in Italy's Tekne di Ortona, a company that designs military vehicles and electronic systems. The deal was conditioned by the Italian government exercising its "golden power" to safeguard strategic sectors, protect intellectual property and ensure security oversight.

The acquisition, announced by regional production minister Tiziana Magnaccache, was presented as a way to preserve the jobs of roughly 180 workers at the Abruzzo plant and to fund a four‑year industrial plan that includes new hires. Regional president Marco Marsilio and the Ministry of Economic Development (MIMIT) supported the plan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining specialised production capacity and technical expertise in Italy.

The agreement, reported in the Financial Times, marks a significant foreign investment in Italy’s defence industry while keeping key assets under national control.
