U.S. occupations show high earning upside for top performers
An analysis of over 700 U.S. occupations reveals significant compensation gaps between median earners and those in the 90th percentile. Based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data, 20 occupations were identified where top performers earn at least twice the median salary.
Among growing professions, financial advisors and talent agents show the highest earning upside. Top-tier financial advisors earn at least $357,020, which is 240% more than the median, while top talent agents earn at least $284,570, exceeding the median by 243%.
High earning potential is not exclusively tied to college degrees. Commercial divers and flight attendants can reach six-figure salaries through specialized training. Other notable gaps include bartenders, where 90th-percentile earners make at least 115% more than the median, and lawyers, who earn at least 120% more than the median attorney.
