US offers $5 million bounty for capture of Mexican cartel leader Juan Carlos Valencia González

Juan Carlos Valencia González, son of Rosalinda González Valencia and step‑son of former CJNG boss Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes (El Mencho), was born on 12 September 1984 in Santa Ana, California, giving him U.S. citizenship. Since December 2021 the United States has posted a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his arrest. A federal indictment in the District of Columbia accuses him of conspiring since at least 2007 to traffic cocaine and methamphetamine into the United States and of using firearms to facilitate the crimes.

Mexican and U.S. intelligence agencies list Valencia González as a senior operator of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). He has overseen operations in southeast Jalisco and later the Colima region, and led an offensive against the splinter group Los Pájaros Sierra in the Jalisco‑Michoacán border area. In April 2022 the Mexican Defense Ministry blamed him for ordering the kidnapping of two female soldiers in Puerto Vallarta, who were released after about 16 hours.

The U.S. National Counterterrorism Center estimates the cartel he leads comprises 15,000‑20,000 members with nationwide presence and international links. Its chief lieutenants are identified as Julio Alberto Castillo Rodríguez (“El Chorro”) and Hugo Gonzalo Mendoza Gaytán (“El Sapo”). The organization controls the trafficking of chemical precursors through the port of Manzanillo.
