US officials and citizens defy flag lowering order for Dolly Parton

Following a presidential proclamation by Donald Trump to lower American flags to half-staff in honor of the late country music icon Dolly Parton, several individuals have publicly defied the order.

In the Texas Panhandle, preacher David Grisham raised the flag to full-staff at the Borger Post Office. Grisham argued that half-staff honors should be reserved for military service members and government officials, stating that Parton “never served in the United States government in any capacity officially.”

Similarly, Ken Adams, the Republican mayor of Olive Branch, Mississippi, refused to lower the flag in his municipality. Adams expressed that such honors should be reserved for military heroes, first responders, presidents, or major national leaders.
